History and Timeline

Summer camp programming began

Theatre Ancaster presented its first spring musical concert, Perfectly Frank: The Songs of Sinatra.

Theatre Ancaster incorporated as a non-profit community theatre and presented its first production as Theatre Ancaster: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Theatre Ancaster founding directors Al Croxall, Ralf Hakenberg and Gord Conroy were honoured by The Town of Ancaster for their services as educators and musical theatre directors who enriched the community with their work.

The Town of Ancaster, preparing for its bicentennial celebration, asked Ralf Hakenberg if he could put together a musical revue as part of the celebrations. He contacted Gord Conroy, who contacted Al Croxall and the three of them, under the auspices of the Ancaster Arts Council and their Chairperson, Les Farington, developed the musical revue, “Broadway Hits Ancaster”. They produced three additional musical revues before incorporating as Theatre Ancaster in 1997. And it all grew from there.
