From the Director:

I am very excited to have the opportunity to stage this wonderful show, one which I have wanted to stage for longer than I can remember.

The music of Stephen Sondheim is insightful, funny, touching, brash and lyrical. It’s no wonder that he is the pre-eminent Broadway composer of our generation. As well, the show is perfectly suited to the cozy confines of the The Old Firehall.

I am sure you will enjoy it and come away humming more than one of Sondheim’s marvellous songs. See you in September.

Side by Side by Sondheim is a celebration of Sondheim's early work in landmark shows that revolutionised musical theatre….Send in the ClownsBroadway BabyLosing My MindI'm Still HereWest Side Story andGypsy.

The original production of Side by Side by Sondheim began in London in 1976 to overwhelming success and ran for four years. The Broadway production opened in a year later in 1977, and enjoyed an incredible run of 390 performances - largely unprecedented for a revue. The show started a trend for sophisticated revues that persists today.
