NEW: Leaders in Training Program
for youth entering grades 10 to 12

Our new Leaders in Training Program (LIT) gives local youth the opportunity to develop leadership and teaching skills in an artistic camp setting. They will be provided with experience working with campers aged 4-15 in our Summer Theatre Program. The LIT program is designed to help creative students develop self-confidence, organizational frameworks, and communication skills while having fun!

Participation in this program is based on application. Successful applicants pay a $150 fee for the program. Community Service Hours are awarded and there is an opportunity for paid employment in the Before/After Care Program for students to earn income.

Learning activities include:

  • on site participation at both Memorial and the Old Firehall Arts Centre
  • observation and classroom instruction and hands on training in leading activities and lessons in the arts for campers age 4-13
  • ability to express yourself and conduct critical feedback exercises
  • working in conjunction with an LIT co-ordinator
  • gaining knowledge and understanding in effective camp and arts leadership
  • participation in workshops on communication, program planning, confidence and self-esteem building
  • individual leadership of one large group lesson/activity/workshop for campers
  • collaboration on planning and executing a specific camp activity
  • participating in and leading team building activities

Requirements for Application:

  • experience in either dramatic arts, vocal music or dance
  • ability to attend all training and mandatory program dates
  • an interest in leadership training
  • a passion for the arts and arts education for youth
  • must be currently enrolled in high school to apply
